Resumption of Indo-Pak dialogue positive step: White House

The White House on Friday termed Indo-Pak dialogue as "positive step".

WASHINGTON: The White House on Friday termed as "positive step" the decision by India and Pakistan to resume dialogue.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gates said "deescalation of tension" between the two countries would help in the 'war against terror' in the region.

Obviously there is a long way to go. But certainly the "deescalation of tension between the two countries" would help in the fight against taliban and Al-Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan, Gates said.

He was responding to a question about yesterday's meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani in Thimphu. The two countries have decided to resume dialogue to discuss all issues of mutual concern.
