Reservation not a long term solution to any problem: Abhishek Singhvi

NEW DELHI: In the backdrop of a mega show of strength by Patels in Gujarat to push for inclusion in OBC category, a Congress leader said that reservation is "not a long term solution" to any problem.

"Reservation is at best a temporary short/ medium term bt neither real nor long term solution to any problem #HardikPatel", Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said in a tweet.

"If Jats Patels & upwardly mobile communities want reservation then why Brahmins, Rajputs, Bhumiars etc excluded? They Are real backwards today", another Congress leader Manish Tewari said on the micro-blogging site.

In Ahmedabad, in a mega show of strength to push their demand for inclusion in OBC category for reservation, the Patel community today warned the BJP government in Gujarat that it will face consequences in 2017 Assembly polls if the plea is not accepted, saying the "lotus" will not bloom again.

The warning was sounded by 22-year-old Hardik Patel, the convener of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti which is spearheading the agitation, at a rally.
