PATNA: BJP's expelled leader Daya Shankar Singh, who was absconding after an FIR was lodged against him at Lucknow's Hazaratganj police station on July 20, was arrested from Rajpur in Bihar's Buxar district which shares boundaries with UP. He was arrested in the afternoon.

He is likely to be produced before a court in Mau district.

Confirming the arrest of Dayashankar, UP DGP Javeed Ahamad said police got a tip off about his presence in Buxar district and swung into action.

Dayashankar, who was vice president of UP's BJP unit, had allegedly used objectionable remarks against Mayawati. The matter was raised in the Parliament and later, the BJP expelled Dayashankar from the party.

Sources said Rajpur is Dayashankar's ancestral village and he had studied in UP's Ballia town at the residence of his maternal uncle.
