Reliance Infocomm defends itself in Amar's phone tapping case

NEW DELHI: Reliance Infocomm on Monday refuted in the Supreme Court the allegations that it had illegally tapped former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's phone, saying that it had acted "in a bonafide manner".

In a 21-page affidavit, submitted to a bench of justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly, the telecom company said, "It has acted in a bonafide manner and has followed the prescribed procedures."

The company said it has cooperated fully with the Delhi Police in the investigations and had acted with "perfect honesty and care and caution".

Its response came after the court, in the earlier hearing, pulled up the company and the government in the alleged illegal and unauthorised phone tapping of Amar Singh.

The former SP leader had moved a petition seeking a judicial inquiry into the "illegal" tapping of his telephone allegedly at the behest of his political rivals including the Congress party.
