Rehman Malik, Gilani's sons among 154 lawmakers temporarily suspended

154 federal and provincial lawmakers' membership has been temporarily suspended by Pak's EC after they failed to submit details of their assets and liabilities.

Islamabad: Interior Minister Rehman Malik and former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani's two sons are among 154 federal and provincial lawmakers whose membership has been temporarily suspended by Pakistan's Election Commission after they failed to submit details of their assets and liabilities.

The lawmakers suspended by the poll panel included members of the National Assembly or lower house of Parliament, the Senate or upper house, the Punjab Assembly, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, the Sindh Assembly and the Balochistan Assembly.

The assets and liabilities said these people could not function as lawmakers as they had failed to meet a deadline for submitting an annual report on their assets and liabilities as well as the assets and liabilities of their children and spouses.

This was required under the election laws, the panel said in a statement.

The lawmakers would cease to function until they submit details of the assets and liabilities.
