Regularise our employment: contractual home guards to Kejriwal
NEW DELHI: A group of home guards whose services were terminated after serving on a contractual basis during the Congress government's tenure, today met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and requested him to bring out a comprehensive policy to regularise their employment.

"We are almost 17,500 people who are living a miserable life despite having all the eligibilities to serve the country," said Kamla Prasad, president of Delhi Home Guards Welfare Association, who submitted the charter of demands to Kejriwal.

The group met the chief minister at his darbar and Prasad said Kejriwal has assured them to look into the matter from all angles.

"We met Kejriwal and requested him to roll out a comprehensive policy to regularise home guards, who lost their jobs at one stroke of a pen," she said.

Last month, the government had asked the Director General (Home Guards) to prepare a road map for deployment of home guards or marshals in buses in order to ensure security for passengers, especially women, in tune with a key poll promise of the AAP.

" Kejriwal government would need home guards in ample amount to deploy security in each of the bus as he had promised in the manifesto. So, in such a case, our reinstatement is the most viable alternative," another ex-home guard said.

On March 11, the Supreme Court had upheld the decisions of High Courts of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana and Himachal Pradesh that the services of home guards in these three states cannot be regularised.
