Reddy launches HMDA replacing HUDA

HYDERABAD: With a vision to make Hyderabad a model city in the country, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy here today launched Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

The Andhra Pradesh government issued orders for constitution of HMDA, to replace the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA), that was set up in 1975.

The Chief Minister, who is now the chairman of HMDA, also laid foundation for its central office at Hitex Grounds in Madhapur here.

"The launch of HMDA is a historical day for Hyderabad as the city now acquires metropolitan status and it will further help in infrastructural developments," Reddy said.

The HMDA jurisdiction covering 54 mandals of five neighbouring districts including Hyderabad, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Mahaboobnagar and Nalgonda will be provided with round-the-clock water supply on a priority basis in the next 4-5 years, the Chief Minister announced.

"Keeping in mind the future requirements of the growing population, we will work for planned development under HMDA limits for facilitating world class roads, drainage and basic amenities," Reddy said.
