Recent terror attack in Nagrota as shameful as Mumbai attacks of 2008: P Chidambaram

NEW DELHI: The recent terror attack in Nagrota is as shameful as Mumbai attacks of 2008 and this incident was Pakistan's response to post -Uri surgical strikes by Delhi, opined former Home Minister P Chidambaram.

"This government thinks after acting on many issues...Eventually we have to live with our neighbours. This government was overenthusiastic with Pakistan when it started and it is currently on the other extreme," claimed Chidambaram while speaking at a panel discussion while releasing former NSA Shiv Shankar Menon's book titled Choices Inside the Making of India's Foreign Policy.

Recalling the UPA government's response to 26/11 with former PM Manmohan Singh in audience Chidambaram who took over as Home Minister within five days of the attack said, "Retaliation was not an option neither desirable nor feasible at that point of time." Menon's book was released by former PM and Chidambaram.

He, however, admitted that 26/11 was a major intelligence failure and low point in internal security.

The former Home Minister pointed out that India experienced no terror attacks between 2008-2012 & 2013 when UPA was in power. He also claimed that situation has changed under the NDA government particularly in 2015 when army installations have been attacked. Chidamabaram attributed deteriorating security situation and Kashmir crisis due to absence of unified command at the level of Home Minister and inefficient administration in Jammu and Kashmir.
