NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said he was working to reach out to those affected in the earthquake that was felt across India and Nepal.

"We are in the process of finding more information and are working to reach out to those affected, both at home and in Nepal," Modi tweeted.

"News has come in about an earthquake in Nepal. Several parts of India also experienced tremors." he said.

An earthquake of 7.5 on Richter scale struck various cities of India, including Delhi, Gurgaon, Kolkata and Guwahati at 11.41 a.m. The epicentre of the earthqauke was in Lamjung, Nepal.

PM speaks to CMs of Bihar, Sikkim

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today spoke to chief ministers of Bihar and Sikkim amid efforts to get information about the situation after a powerful earthquake struck north India.

"We are in the process of finding more information and are working to reach out to those affected, both at home & in Nepal," he tweeted immediately after the quake whose epicentre was in Nepal and measured 7.5 on the Richter scale.

The PMO later tweeted that Modi spoke to the chief ministers of Bihar and Sikkim.

"PM @narendramodi has spoken to Bihar CM Shri @NitishKumarJDU ji in connection with the Earthquake.In the wake of the Earthquake, PM has spoken to Sikkim CM Shri Pawan Chamling," PMO tweeted.

The Prime Minister also spoke to the President of Nepal Ram Baran Yadav.

"PM is trying to reach Nepal PM Shri Sushil Koirala, who is abroad. He has spoken to President of Nepal Shri Ram Baran Yadav," the PMO tweeted.
