RDX, other explosives found in Burdwan-Hatia train at Kita

The police said one person identified as Intezar Ali, a resident of Hindpidi at Ranchi who claimed to be a doctor, was arrested in this connection.

RANCHI: A large quantity of explosives, including RDX, was recovered from a passenger train at Kita station near here and one person was arrested, police said today.

Based on intelligence inputs, policemen conducted a raid in the Burdwan-Hatia Passenger train at Kita and found half a kg of RDX, six country-made bombs, six timers, 24 gelatin sticks, four kg of urea, 250 gms of sulphur and 25 mt wire last night.

One person identified as Intezar Ali, a resident of Hindpidi at Ranchi who claimed to be a doctor, was arrested in this connection, police said.

Ali told his interrogators that the explosives were procured from Bangladesh, but the police were yet to ascertain to where these explosives were being transported.

Following the arrest, police conducted raids in Ali's house and other places last night and seized his computer and other articles.

A letter written in coded words was also recovered and efforts were on to decipher it.

Police suspected that the explosive were meant to trigger blast in and around Ranchi, where activities of a sleeper cell of Indian Mujahiddin had been detected in Hindpidi and Dhurba areas and arrests were also made in the past.

If required, the police said it would seek the help of NIA in this case.
