Ray of hope as 97-year-old in Chennai recovers from Covid-19

CHENNAI: A 97-year-old who contracted the novel coronavirus recovered, making him among the oldest survivors of the infection in the country and the oldest in the State which has been among the worst affected.

Krishna Murti A was admitted at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai on May 30 after he tested positive for Covid-19. His symptoms included fever, cough and mild breathlessness.

He also had other ailments such as hypertension and coronary heart diseases. A statement from the hospital on Friday confirmed that he had been put on extra oxygen support on admission to help him with his breathing.


“Kauvery Hospital has successfully treated and discharged over 200 patients. Krishna Murti is our oldest patient so far and it was truly a team’s effort in ensuring that his health condition remains stable through constant monitoring. Taking his case as an example, we wish to tell people to not to give in to the fear and lose hope. The fatality rate of Covid-19 is very low and we urge people to be positive and safe during these challenging times,” Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Senior Consultant - Infectious Diseases, Kauvery Hospital said.
