NEW DELHI: Senior advocate Ranjit Kumar today assumed charge as the Solicitor General (SG) of India.

The government has also appointed six additional Solicitor Generals (ASGs)--senior advocates Maninder Singh, L Nageshwar Rao, Tushar Mehta, P S Patwalia, Neeraj K Kaul and P S Narasimha.

The newly-appointed law officers would take steps to reduce the number of cases given the fact that government and its departments are major litigants, sources said. They said no final decision has been taken on the appointment of the new Attorney General (AG).
