Ranjit Das is the new BJP president of Assam

BJP’s vice president Shantanu Bharali has been serving as in-charge president. BJP started refurbishing its organisational set up in Assam.

Ranjit Das is the new BJP president of Assam
GUWAHATI: After months of uncertainty, Bharatiya Janata Party has selected Ranjit Das as the new party president of Assam.

Journalist turned politician, Das is presently the speaker of state assembly.

The two-time legislator from Sorbhog, Das belongs to league of early BJP leaders. Das had close association with RSS and has played vital role in setting up party’s organisational base in Lower Assam.

Das is presently on a official tour to England.

Sarbananda Sonowal after becoming the chief minister following Saffron party’s spectacular electoral victory in assembly polls relinquished the post of party president. BJP’s vice president Shantanu Bharali has been serving as in-charge president.

Soon after winning the polls in Assam, BJP started refurbishing its organisational set up in Assam. A senior party leader told ET, “A panel of name was submitted to party’s national president Amit Shah. Most of senior leaders including chief minister Sonowal and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had backed Das for state unit chief.”
