Ranjan Gogoi seeks answers on Mulayam Singh Yadav disproportionate assets case

The CJI said the CBI, which has been probing the case, had in its status report submitted to the court in 2007 said there was prima facie evidence to warrant an FIR.

NEW DELHI: The SC has rejected objections from SP chief Mulayam Singh about the timing of the charges of amassing disproportionate assets being raised in the court against him, and instead sought an explanation from the CBI on what it had done so far on filing an FIR in the case.

“The timing is not relevant,” CJI Ranjan Gogoi, who was sitting alongside Justice Deepak Gupta, told his lawyer who said these were being brought up in court just before the polls to embarrass him.

The CJI said the CBI, which has been probing the case, had in its status report submitted to the court in 2007 said there was prima facie evidence to warrant an FIR.
