Ramvilas Paswan demands Bihar CM's resignation
LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan demanded that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resign owning moral responsibility for the Gopalganj incident.
"Nitish should own moral responsibility for the police firing and also the killing of a doctor in Gopalganj jail," Paswan told reporters here.
Accusing Nitish Kumar of failing to "establish the rule of law" in Bihar, Paswan said several inhuman incidents occurred during the past one week.
"Even a doctor was called inside the Gopalganj jail and was beaten to death by inmates on May 30," he said, adding now four innocent persons died in yesterday's incident what he described as unprovoked and unwarranted police firing.
He demanded that the state government order a judicial inquiry into the firing and provide compensation of Rs 20 lakh to bereaved families of each of the dead.
Two persons were killed and another was injured when police opened fire to disperse locals opposed to the construction of a maize-processing factory and an approach road at Bhagpur village in Araria district yesterday.
While 59 year-old doctor Buddhadev Singh was critically assaulted by convicts in their prison ward in Gopalganj on May 28. He died on way to the Patna Medical College Hospital.
