Rampurhat violence: CBI arrest 4 from Mumbai; submits initial report to HC

The CBI took over the case on the high court's order. It submitted the preliminary report in a sealed envelope to a bench headed by Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava.

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday submitted a preliminary report to the Calcutta High Court on its probe into last month's deadly violence at Rampurhat in West Bengal.

Also on Thursday, the central agency arrested four people from Mumbai for their alleged involvement in the case. They had allegedly fled Rampurhat after the violence, which took the lives of nine people at village Bogtui.

The CBI took over the case on the high court's order. It submitted the preliminary report in a sealed envelope to a bench headed by Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava.


Issues related to Trinamool Congress deputy panchayat head Bhadu Sheikh's murder, which triggered the widespread violence, were also discussed during the hearing Thursday. The CBI said it had no objection to take up this case as well if ordered by the court, people in the know said.
