Ramani's plot: Govt projects under scanner

Socialite Beena Ramani's proposed residential plot in north Goa and several other government projects have come under scanner.

PANAJI: Socialite Beena Ramani's proposed residential plot in north Goa and several other government projects have come under scanner after controversial Regional Plan (RP) 2011 was scrapped.

The state government has not scrapped the plan at the ground level allowing several constructions to go unabated, Oscar Rebello, chairman Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA), a NGO, fighting against the controversial RP 2011 told mediapersons here.

Former chief minister Pratapsingh Rane scrapped RP-2011 in February this year, following protest against the land use plan which feared to rob Goa of its beauty.

An official document made available by GBA to the media indicates that 5,593 square metre piece of land belonging to Ramani was proposed to be converted for residential purpose under RP 2011. The conversion sanad for the plot in Nerul Panchayat is however not issued following scrapping of the plan.

Cases like Ramani's are an isolated one as many developments banned after scrapping of RP 2011 are going on unhindered, Rebello claimed.

"The government has allowed many constructions to continue under some pretext or other, and has limited itself to only using show cause notices," he said.
