Rama Jois, Rudy to get RS nominations
Mr M Rama Jois, Dhananjay Kumar and Rajiv Pratap Rudy are expected to bag Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) nomination for the Rajya Sabha.

NEW DELHI: Mr M Rama Jois, Dhananjay Kumar and Rajiv Pratap Rudy are expected to bag Bharatiya Janata Party���s (BJP) nomination for the Rajya Sabha. The central election committee meeting on Friday will formally finalise their candidature.
Four seats in Karnataka fell vacant, following the term of three Congress members, Janardhana Poojary, Prema Cariappa and M V Rajashekaran and independent Vijay Mallya, ending, while the vacancy in Bihar is the result of the disqualification of Jai Narain Nishad.
Following its win in Karnataka, the BJP has the required number of 46, each, required for winning two seats. For these two seats, the party will nominate Mr Jois and Mr Kumar.
Besides being an eminent jurist, the former Punjab and Haryana chief justice and Bihar governor Rama Jois is remembered for his spectacular legal service during the Emergency.
Justice Rama Jois had spearheaded the legal battle against the detention of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Opposition leader L K Advani, former railway minister Madhu Dandavate and parliamentarian Shyamnandan Mishra, under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act, after Indira Gandhi promulgated Emergency on June 26, 1975.
Former Union minister of state at the Centre, Mr Kumar was part of the team that helped steer the BJP to its win in Karnataka.
For the by-election for the Bihar seat, which had fallen vacant after Jai Narain Nishad was disqualified following his defection from the BJP to the RJD, the party will nominate its spokesperson and former Union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
Mr Rudy will complete the term for this seat, which will work out to about a year and a half.
A former Lok Sabha MP, Mr Rudy lost the Chhapra seat in the 2004 elections when he contested against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
