Ram Navami clash in Bengal: death toll reaches five

Banerjee was on four day trip to Delhi to garner support for a federal front to fight against the NDA government. The chief minister returned and took stock of situation.

In last five days , at least six FIRs were filed against BJP leaders including union minister Babul Supriyo, BJP’s state president Dilip Ghosh and senior leader Locket Chatterjee.
With two fresh casualties in Asansol-Raniganj area, the death toll in clashes following Ram Navami celebrations in Bengal reached five. The victims included two minors.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee called a high level meeting at Nabanna .Banerjee was on four day trip to Delhi to garner support for a federal front to fight against the NDA government. The chief minister returned and took stock of situation.

Prohibitory orders were imposed, while the internet services remained suspended in the area. However, the videos, short clips and photographs of clashes are still getting circulated through what’s app, Face Book and Twitter.


The MP from Asansol and a central minister, Babul Supriyo and a senior leader of BJP, Locket Chatterjee were restricted from reaching the affected areas in Asansol by police. Later in the evening, FIR was filed against the union minister for violating section 144. However, Supriyo said that he was not allowed to enter his own constituency by police and sent back to Kolkata.

In last five days , at least six FIRs were filed against BJP leaders including union minister Babul Supriyo, BJP’s state president Dilip Ghosh and senior leader Locket Chatterjee. Earlier Bengal governor K N Tripathi was also advised to refrain from travelling to the trouble-torn area.
