Ram Jethmalani asked P A Sangma not to withdraw from the presidential contest and promised that he would personally campaign for him.

LONDON: BJP MP Ram Jethmalani today asked former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma not to withdraw from the presidential contest and promised that he would personally campaign for him.

"I have spoken to Mr Sangma, Nationalist Congress Party leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker, today. I have taken a personal assurance that he is not going to withdraw. I have told him that I will personally campaign for him," Jethmalani, veteran Supreme Court lawyer who is here told reporters.

According to reports, Sangma who is adamant on contesting the presidential polls against UPA candidate and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has been reportedly suggested by the NCP high command to withdraw.
