DEHRADUN: Rakesh Sharma today took over as the new Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand following retirement of incumbent N Ravishankar.

Sharma, a 1982 batch IAS officer, was holding the post of Additional Chief Secretary before taking up the new assignment.

A simple ceremony preceded Sharma's taking charge from Ravishankar, who retired today.

Boosting connectivity in the remote hill areas will be his priority, Sharma told reporters soon after assuming office.

Meanwhile, Ravishankar described the MoU signed with Himachal Pradesh government over 660-MW Kishau dam multi-purpose project as the most significant achievement during his brief tenure as the Chief Secretary to the Uttarakhand government.
