NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha today mourned the death of its former member and veteran journalist Jagjit Singh Anand.

When the House met for the day, Chairman Hamid Ansari mentioned the passing away of Anand on June 19 at the age of 93.

A journalist by profession, Anand represented Punjab in the Upper House from April 1974 to April 1980. A prolific writer, he had over 30 publications to his credit, he said.

"In the passing away of Shri Jagjit Singh Anand, the country has lost a distinguished parliamentarian and a veteran journalist," Ansari said mourning his death.

Members stood in their places as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed.
