Rajya Sabha MPs question govt on IndiGo cancellations
During the recent Rajya Sabha session, lawmakers voiced their frustrations regarding the surge in IndiGo flight cancellations. They probed into whether these issues were a consequence of the airline’s strategic miscalculations or a shortcoming on ...

During the question hour, Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman raised the question and asked Union civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu to give clarity on the chaos resulting from the large-scale IndiGo flight cancellations over the past few days. Suman was joined by Congress leader Pramod Tiwari who also asked whether it was a failure of 'Automatic Message Switching System'.
To this, Naidu replied that there was no failure of AMSS and only a delay was reported, and that the issue has largely to do with internal planning of the IndiGo.
Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora expressed gratitude to the Union minister for issuing a showcause notice to the airlines and suggested that more companies should be roped in into the aviation industry.
AIADMK MP Thambi Durai while sharing his personal experience asked that if there was an issue, why did the airline continue to let people book flights despite the cancellations. "I was at the Delhi airport from 6 am to 2 pm to go to Chennai on December 4. If there was a problem, why was IndiGo allowed to book tickets? I read in the newspaper that money will be returned immediately. Returning money is different but what were the precautionary measures taken by the government. Air India currently is charging ₹75,000 for Executive Class and we, as MPs, have to book that... There should be a capping of prices," Durai urged.
