Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary resigns from Bodoland Peoples’ Front

“While my aim and purpose remain the same it has always been from the very beginning to serve the people of my state and country. I think I am unable to do this anymore within this party,” Daimary said in a letter to Hagrama Mohilary.

GUWAHATI: Working President of Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary resigned from the party post on Wednesday.

BPF is an ally in the ruling BJP led coalition in Assam. BPF and BJP are engaged in a bitter war of words over the Bodoland territorial council (BTC) polls.

Daimary, in a letter to Hagrama Mohilary, said: “While my aim and purpose remain the same it has always been from the very beginning to serve the people of my state and country. I think I am unable to do this anymore within this party.”


Daimary who is likely to join BJP added, “While my purposes remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore within the party,” the letter said.

BJP and BPF will separately fight the BTC polls. BTC is rechristened as at Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Hagrama and Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are engaged in verbal volley.

Following the deferring of polls, BPF moved Court. The term of the sixth schedule BTAD ended on April 27 last. Election to the council which was slated for April 4 last was deferred following the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Jagdish Mukhi took over administration of the sixth schedule council.

However, different political parties are holding rallies and there is huge turnout in the meeting however it is alleged that COVID protocols are violated.
