Rajya Sabha mourns death of social activist Narendra Dabholkar

In his obituary reference, RS Chairman Hamid Ansari said Dabholkar dedicated his life for social welfare and worked for eradication of superstition, animal sacrifice and drinking water.

NEW DELHI: RajyaSabha ON Friday mourned the death of social activist and anti-superstition campaigner NarendraDabholkar in Pune earlier this week.

As soon as the House met for the day, Chairman Hamid Ansari mentioned of the killing of Dabholkar in Pune on August 20.

In his obituary reference, Ansari said Dabholkar was a doctor by profession who dedicated his life for social welfare and worked for eradication of superstition, animal sacrifice and drinking water.

On Thursday, Ram Vilas Paswan(LJP)had demanded that the House condole the death of Dabhoklar. His demand was supported by Sitaram Yechury(CPI-M)and others.

"In passing away of Narendra Dabholkar, the country has lost a noted social worker," Ansari said in his obituary reference.

He said the House deeply mourns the passing away of Dabholkar after which members stood in silence in memory of the departed.
