Union Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O' Brien are among eleven leaders set to be elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha. Six TMC and five BJP candidates will be elected unopposed. The polling for Rajya Sabha is scheduled to be held on July 24, if required.

After this round of elections, the ruling BJP will gain one seat in the lower house of Parliament. BJP is currently the single largest party in the Rajya Sabha with 92 members and the combined strength of NDA is 104.

Besides NDA's own strength of 104 members in Rajya Sabha, the ruling alliance also enjoys the support of five nominated MPs in the house with the effective strength of 237 members.


There will be no voting for six seats in West Bengal, three in Gujarat and one seat in Goa on July 24, as no opponent has filed nominations against these candidate.

The other Trinamool Congress leaders elected unopposed are Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Dola Sen, Saket Gokhale, Samirul Islam, and Prakash Barik.
