New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha couldn't function for the fourth day in a row with the opposition members sloganeering inside the house forcing the chair to adjourn the house on two occasions and then for the entire day.

The house proceedings started with deputy chairman Harivansh calling nominated member Ujjwal Nikam for oath. Nikam was nominated to the upper house by the President on July 13.

Post his oath taking, the deputy chairman invited the retiring members for their farewell speech. Six members retired on Thursday all from Tamil Nadu. The list included three members from the DMK and one each from AIADMK, PMK and MDMK. DMK member P Wilson has been renominated in the house.

Deputy chairman declined around 30 adjournment notices given by the opposition party members demanding discussion on multiple issues including the 'unexpected resignation of Chairman Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Harivansh announced the Question Hour, and it is when the opposition members started shouting slogans inside the house.

The house was adjourned till 2 in the afternoon. At 2 PM, the chair Bhubaneswar Kalita tried to run the business of the house but finally had to adjourn it for the entire day amidst opposition protests.
