Rajnath Singh, Modi slam PM over LoC attack, say Pakistan crossed all limits

HYDERABAD/NEW DELHI: Asserting that Pakistan has "crossed all limits" after the LoC attack, the BJP today demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spell out what his government did to check the neighbouring country in the wake of its "continued atrocities" on Indian soldiers.

The BJP also piled pressure on Singh to immediately declare there will be no talks with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif at New York next month.

The renewed demand for cancelling the talks was made by BJP President Rajnath Singh even as party's national election campaign chief Narendra Modi accused the Congress of failing to ensure the security of the nation, spitting fire at its Pakistan policy.

Both Rajnath Singh and Modi targeted the prime minister over the LoC attack in which five jawans were killed during an ambush in which Pakistan's specialised troops were involved.

Addressing a mammoth youth rally at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad, Modi recalled the prime minister's stern warning to Pakistan that it cannot be business as usual following the beheading of Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops in January.

"I want to ask the Prime Minister... You assured the nation that you will not tolerate such acts. But again last week's incidents at the LoC have shaken the nation and raised a question 'whom do we trust?'," the Gujarat Chief Minister said.

He questioned how such a prime minister could ensure safety and security of the people of the country.

"Pakistan is continuing its atrocities one after the other and we, a nation of 125 crore people, are silently suffering. The Delhi sultanate is stuck neck-deep only in vote bank politics. The UPA government has failed to ensure security of the nation," Modi lashed out, referring to the latest LoC attack.

Rajnath Singh blamed UPA's "inaction" for Pakistan daring to attack India and also demanded that India's High Commissioner to Pakistan be recalled and diplomatic relations with that country scaled down.

"You should declare today itself that there will be no talks with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Also, you should take effective steps by taking all political parties into confidence. All limits have been crossed now," Rajnath Singh said addressing a rally at Ramlila grounds in Delhi.

"If timely and effective steps were taken by the Indian government, Pakistan could not have dared to attack Indian posts," he said, asking, "Till when will we continue to hold dialogue and talks with Pakistan?".
