Rajnath Singh gives a go-ahead to various recommendations of the Madhukar Gupta committee
NEW DELHI: Alarmed over the rising instances of infiltration from across the border, home minister Rajnath Singh recently held discussions to implement suggestions made by the Madhukar Gupta committee, which was set up after the Pathankot attack to study and identify gaps in border security. The committee submitted its report last month.

The minister is said to have given the go-ahead to various recommendations made by the committee to plug gaps so that incidents like the Uri attack, where militants crossed the Line of Control and killed Indian soldiers, are not repeated.

While the LoC is under the Army, the 2,000-km international border (IB) is manned by the Border Security Force, which reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The committee was tasked to study gaps along the IB only.

According to government officials, the BSF and the ministry have been asked to put in place "grid border protection" instead of "linear security." The Multi Agency Centre run by the Intelligence Bureau has been directed to sensitise their officers to generate intelligence along the Indo-Pak border and coordinate with the local border police.
