NEW DELHI: Realising that Masrat Alam would not be re-arrested by the J&K government as there were no fresh grounds for his detention, as per guidelines of the Supreme Court, the home ministry has asked the J&K government to put him under close surveillance and challenge his bail in 27 pending cases.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament on Thursday that the Centre had asked the J&K government to pursue all 27 criminal cases against Alam and challenge bail granted in the cases.
