NEW DELHI: A lower court on Saturday allowed Rajendra K Pachauri, the former head of an environment think tank who faces charges of sexual harassment, to travel abroad from June 29 to July 9. Pachauri had petitioned the court seeking permission to travel abroad to attend the last rites of his brother-in-law who, he said, died on June 23 in Hawaii in the US.

Pachauri’s petition was vehemently challenged by the counsels of both the complainant and the Delhi police.

Pachauri was booked by the Delhi police on February 18 on charges of sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation on the complaint of a 29-year old research analyst working with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). Pachauri resigned as director general after the complaint.
