JAIPUR: Rajasthan government has decided to withdraw most of the criminal cases registered against its Rajya Sabha memberKirodi Lal Meena and his wife Golma Devi who recently rejoined the party after a gap of 10 years, a development that opposition Congress has said smacks of politics of appeasement.

In the past six months, the state has withdrawn hundreds of criminal cases against Gujjars, Dalits and Rajputs during agitations organised by these communities.

In the case of Meena and his wife, the government had booked the couple several times for alleged violence, damage to public property and indecency when they launched agitations against the government since they quit the BJP in 2008.

Police had also probed Meena’s role in the death of a police officer, Phool Mohammad, who was burnt alive in his jeep. However, a case of gangrape registered against Meena in 2016 will continue.

“All the cases which are being withdrawn are politically motivated,” Meena told ET.
