The gaushala, which houses nearly 15,000 cows had made news in 2016 after thousands of cows died on the premises due to lack of management. The gaushala was handed over to an NGO to run its daily operations.
Going one step further to demonstarte its love for cows, Rajasthan is planning to organise cow safaris to let people stay and interact with the bovines. Rajasthan is the only state to have a ministry dedicated to welfare of cows.

The government is planning to let people stay at the state-run Hingonia Gaushala on the outskirts of Jaipur. A report in the Times of India stated that the safari includes allowing people to watch cows graze, massage them, milk them and clean them.

The safari will be free but visitors may be charged for staying in the machan huts on trees, the report said.

"Tourism development was part of our memorandum of understanding with the state government. We have started the development of huts on trees and a wall around the forest area. While the cow safari will be free for visitors, tariff will be fixed for staying in the machan huts overnight. The project will be launched on Janmashtami,” the report quoted Radha Priya Das, in charge of Hingonia Gaushala, as saying.
