Rajasthan announces cash awards for Olympic winners Vijay Kumar, Sushil Kumar, Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal and others

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today announced cash awards of Rs 50 lakh each for silver medalists and Rs 25 lakh each for bronze medal winners of the London Olympics.

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today announced cash awards of Rs 50 lakh each for silver medalists and Rs 25 lakh each for bronze medal winners of the London Olympics.

"Rajasthan government will give Rs 50 lakh to silver medalists and Rs 25 lakh to bronze medal winners at the Olympics," the chief minister told reporters here.

Shooter Vijay Kumar and wrestler Sushil Kumar, who won silver medals, will get cash awards of Rs 50 lakh each.

Boxer Mary Kom, shuttler Saina Nehwal, shooter Gagan Narang and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt will get 25 lakh each for winning bronze medals, he said.

Athlete Krishna Poonia, who belongs to the state, will also get a cash reward of Rs 21 lakh for qualifying for the final round of women's Discuss Throw competition in the Olympics, he said.
