Raj Thackeray wants pvt sector to reserve 80% jobs for Marathis

MUMBAI: Even before the storm raised by his attack on Biharis settles down, Raj Thackeray has triggered another one. This time he has demanded reservation for Marathi-speaking people in the private sector.

The estranged nephew of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, pioneer of the sons-of-soil theory for political gains in the state, on Wednesday took the whole issue of the alleged Marathi marginalisation to another level. His nascent political outfit Maharashtra Navnirman Sena is writing to all functioning industries in Maharashtra asking them to engage more and more Marathi-speaking. The same strategy would be followed about all, whoever wants to set up industry in the state, he said.

Addressing his office-bearers and members of the labour wing, Mr Raj Thackeray laid down his partys road map. Henceforth, industries not recruiting majority of locals will find it difficult to function in the state, he said in a veiled threat. He set his partys office-bearers on the job to collect data from respective areas on industries vis--vis employee status.

Maharashtra Navnirman Kamgar Sena, the workers union floated by MNS, is writing letters to 45,000 industries in Maharashtra asking them to ensure reservation for Marathi residents of the state, party chiefs co-ordinator Manoj Chavan said later while speaking to mediapersons.

He said already letters have been sent to several industries demanding job reservation for locals. The party has also written to private companies asking them to reserve 80% jobs in companies for Marathis failing which they would launch an agitation, Mr Chavan said.
