Raj Thackeray arrested, released on bail

Mumbai police on Monday arrested MNS chief Raj Thackeray.

MUMBAI: Acting on a Jamshedpur court order, city police today arrested Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, whose party launched a violent campaign against North Indians in Maharashtra, in a case in which he is accused of hurting religious sentiments and instigating violence.

He was later released on bail. The MNS chief was arrested this morning by Shivaji Park Police and produced before the Dadar court where he was granted bail of Rs 15,000, Raj's lawyer Shayaji Nangare told.

The Dadar court, however, directed Raj to appear before the Jamshedpur court by January 10.

On December 16, a court in Jamshedpur issued non-bailable warrant against Raj, whose party had launched a violent agitation against North Indian migrants living in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.
