Uddhav Thackeray & Raj Thackeray

Mumbai: Nearly two decades after parting ways, the Thackeray brothers-Raj and Uddhav-are now exchanging feelers about the possibility of reuniting ahead of upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra.

Raj Thackeray, who leads the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), and Uddhav Thackeray, head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), have long been at political odds. But recent comments from both suggest a potential thaw in their strained relationship.

Addressing party workers on Saturday, Uddhav said, "I too am ready to set aside minor disputes for the larger cause of the Marathi language and Maharashtra. I appeal to all Marathi people to come together for the benefit of the state." While he did not name Raj directly, his remarks were widely seen as an overture to his estranged cousin.

Raj, in an interview earlier last week, struck a similar note. "For me, the interest of Maharashtra is above all. I'm willing to set aside minor differences and work with Uddhav. The only question is-whether he is ready too."
