As incessant rainfall wreaks havoc across Mumbai for the second consecutive day, the Maharashtra state government declared a precautionary public holiday for the city, Mumbai Suburban and Thane district Tuesday morning.

The Central Railway (CR), keeping in mind safety issues, suspended suburban train services as rain flooded tracks at several areas between Mumbai-Thane. Western Railway services were also hit.

The downpour in Mumbai has also disrupted flight operations, throwing schedules awry. More than 60 flights have been diverted to and from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport to neighbouring airports and several have been cancelled.

  • Indian Navy deploys various teams to provide assistance to rain hit and stranded people, in Kurla area following a request by BMC. About 1000 people have been shifted to safety with the help of NDRF, fire brigade, Naval teams as well as local volunteers.

  • As water has receded to some extent in Nalasopara, Western Railway locals are being run with a frequency of 30 mins between Vasai Rd-Virar are running normal between Churchgate-Vasai Rd. AC local will not be run today

  • Road traffic also continued to be affected for the second consecutive day in the city and suburbs as many areas were waterlogged, the subways in Andheri, Jogeshwari, Vile Parle and Dahisar flooded.
  • The CR train services, which were earlier suspended between Thane-Kurla, were suspended from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Thane due to tracks getting submerged at various locations on the route and delays were reported on WR suburban network.
  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has appealed to people not to step out unless absolutely necessary in view of the continued downpour.
  • 13 dead after a wall collapsed on hutments in Pimpripada area of Malad East due to heavy rainfall today.NDRF Inspector Rajendra Patil says "In the search by advance equipment, canine search & physical search no more bodies were found so search operation is now being closed".
