Rahul working towards ‘total demise’ of Congress: Smriti Irani

AGRA: Taking on Rahul Gandhi, Union textile minister Smriti Irani said on Sunday the Congress vice-president was working to ensure “total demise” of the party and its disappearance from the national political scene.

Addressing a ‘Yuva Sammelan’ in Agra, Irani took a dig at Rahul’s recent “khat sabhas” in UP and said everyone knew that such distribution of beds was organised during “tervis” to mourn the dead. “Congress will surely die under Rahul’s leadership. The so-called grand old party has already been reduced to a tally of 44 seats in the Lok Sabha,” Irani said.

Taking a dig at Rahul’s recent comments that the earth would shake if he’s allowed to speak in the parliament, Irani said, “There won’t be an earthquake in the parliament, but in the Congress party. A person who cannot face and answer the electorate in Amethi is asking the PM to respond to him.”


The minister added, “2016 will go down in the annals of history as a year when Indian soldiers avenged Pakistan incursions by conducting surgical strikes, and when PM announced the revolutionary demonetisation to end black money and terror funding.”

Irani said the entire country, is backing Modi on the demonetisation move as it would ensure a corruptionfree India. “Congress, BSP and SP were criticising PM’s decision, both inside and outside the Parliament, as they are unable to use their ill-gotten wealth in UP polls.”
