BJP on Thursday claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wants to create a Nepal-like situation in India with his repeated allegations of facilitating "vote theft" against the Election Commission of India.

Hitting out at the Gandhi scion, BJP leader Anurag Thakur said that the Congress had lost about 90 elections under his leadership and that his frustration was increasing day by day.

"It has become a habit of Rahul Gandhi to make incorrect and baseless allegations. Seeking apology and being reprimanded by courts have become a routine for Rahul Gandhi," Thakur said, addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters. "While the Election Commission of India is functioning without bias, Rahul Gandhi is busy weakening democracy, misleading citizens and trying to create a situation like Bangladesh and Nepal."

Gandhi's allegations show his and Congress' lack of faith in Indian democracy, Thakur said, adding that ECI had rejected the latest "vote theft" charge as baseless and incorrect. "Infiltrators-first politics seems to be the sole agenda of Rahul Gandhi," the BJP leader said, asserting that the interests of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes would be hurt the most if the Congress' alleged agenda of protecting illegal voters was allowed.

Defending the ECI after CEC Gyanesh Kumar was repeatedly criticised by Gandhi at his press conference, Thakur cited Congress' association with CECs in the past, like MS Gill, who became a minister in the UPA government, and TN Seshan, who fought a Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket. He also dared Gandhi to go to court if his arguments had strength.
