KOCHI: Launching a major offensive against the BJP government, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has assured fishermen and rubber and cardamom growers that his party will take up their issues at the national level.

Rahul Gandhi promised the members of the fishing community that the Congress will fight for their rights and accused the Modi government of taking away their right to access the sea, the way it took away the farmer’s rights to access their land. Modi government’s decision to extend the trawling ban from 45 days to 61 days had earlier come under severe criticism by the fishermen community.

Speaking at Chavakkad in Thrissur district he said Congress will fight for the rights of the fishermen. Gandhi later met the rubber growers at Aluva. After the meeting he said that the problems of the growers would be taken up at the national level by his party. He said that the party will organise a strong agitation to take up the cause of farmers
