Rahul Gandhi urges Congress workers to do a 'Bihar' in Assam
GUWAHATI: What is being seen as Congress party’s attempt to woo Muslim minority community in Lower Assam ahead of 2016 assembly polls, party vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday went on a “Padyatra” in the All India United Democratic Front’s (AIUDF) stronghold of Barpeta.

Rahul, who is on two-day visit to Assam, campaigned for the party in Barpeta as he walked around 7 km. Rahul said the BJP has a habit of inciting communal violence wherever there is an election. “People no longer believe in PM Modi's false promises. They (BJP) talked about black money and giving every Indian Rs 15 lakh, now they don’t talk of this anymore.”

He said that voters in Bihar did not believe in the false promises despite 30 public rallies of Modi. “Modi has stopped fund flow to Assam, discontinued the special category status which Assam enjoyed.”

Rahul added that, “Bihar will be repeated in Assam if Congress workers fight BJP unitedly. Congress’s 15-year rule in Assam has ushered in development and controlled the violence. BJP wants to weaken the poor and empower two or three industrialists.”

The Assam government is readying a Rs 1,000-cr plan for minorities.
