NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Punjab and Haryana over the weekend to express solidarity with the farmers who are agitating against the new farm laws enacted by the Narendra Modi government.

Gandhi will launch a “tractor rally” in support of the farmers, said party members. All senior party leaders, including the Gandhis, will also participate in the second phase of the nation-wide Congress agitation on Friday against the farm legislations.

Gandhi, accompanied by Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and senior party leaders, will participate in two tractor rallies on Moga-Rajkot and Sangrur-Patiala routes on Saturday and Sunday respectively. He will also visit some areas of Haryana on Sunday to support the agitating farmers. This will be Gandhi's first major public appearance since lockdown.

The Congress is working to make the anti-farmer laws agitation a major political plank against the Modi regime. Alongside, the party is projecting Gandhi as the face of this agitation as part of yet another image makeover for him for a relaunch in the Congress leadership. Some of his advisors want him to travel across India on the farm issues.
