GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh congress committee (APCC) on Thursday confirmed that congress Vice president Rahul Gandhi will appear before the Kamrup district judicial magistrate's court on September 29 in connection with a defamation case filed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

APCC’s senior spokesperson, Apurbo Kr. Bhattacharjee told ET, “Rahul will appear before the court. Congress workers will show solidarity with the leader.”

Rahul Gandhi had alleged that RSS has stooped his entry into Barpeta Satra (monastery) during his visit to Assam in December last year.

The criminal defamation case is filed by a RSS volunteer Anjan Bora. He has claimed that Gandhi has tarnished the image of the organization.

Bora argued that Rahul was suppose to go to 16th century monastery however he did not go and took to padayatra.
