New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday reiterated that party leaders look for a new chief. He is said to have told the party’s Lok Sabha MPs that he is not going back on his decision to quit.

At a meeting, chaired by Congress parliamentary party leader Sonia Gandhi, several members of Parliament, including Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari, requested Rahul Gandhi to remain president. The leaders told Rahul that defeat in Lok Sabha elections was a collective responsibility and he should not leave the president’s post.

However, Rahul remained adamant on leaving the post. Earlier in the day, thousands of Indian Youth Congress workers gathered outside Rahul’s home and urged him to remain the party president.

“Youth Congress wants Rahul Gandhi to continue as party president,” said IYC president Keshav Chand Yadav. Senior Congress leaders Shaktisinh Gohil and JD Seelam also extended their support to IYCworkers.

Congress won 52 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
