Despite Congress' defeats in the three Hindi belt states where he made his pitch for caste census as a major poll plank, party leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday repeated that caste census and participatory share of OBCs, SCs and STs in the system and resources "remain the main issues".

"Caste census and participatory share of OBCs, SCs and STs in the system and resources is the main issues. BJP is trying to divert from the real issue," he said outside Parliament and parried questions on why Congress lost key polls despite his plank.

Gandhi said Home Minister Amit Shah's criticism of India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru in Parliament was part of diversionary tactics. "Shah is unaware of history. I cannot expect him to know history, he has the habit of rewriting it."
