Rahul Gandhi seeks 'open-minded girl'
At 38, India's most watched young politician wouldn't be fazed by uncomfortable questions, leave alone blush, you’d think.
The young Congress leader was in Bhopal to attend a series of functions, including one at the Sanskar Valley School where he interacted with students. Soon after Rahul Gandhi walked into the school's amphitheatre, he was greeted by a volley of questions. As he waded through the wide-eyed teenagers queries, this one stumped him.
"I am Monica Satyavadi. When are you getting married? Who is your soulmate? What is the kind of person you think would be your ideal match?" the ninth grader asked.
There was a burst of laughter and a crimson hue spread across Rahul Gandhi's cheeks. But he quickly recovered.
"Hopefully I will get married soon," came the reply. "I don't know who is my ideal match. If I knew, I would be married by now. But yes, my ideal match would have to be an open-minded person who wants to understand the world from other people's points of view."
More than any freewheeling press conference, the kids seemed to easily draw out Rahul. Answering another query on his childhood ambitions, he said, "My father was a pilot, so I wanted to follow my father's footsteps. Then there was a time when I wanted to join the army. Thereafter, came a phase when I stopped thinking about it."
