Rahul Gandhi questions Centre's move on Ambedkar, Phule texts

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday criticised the Centre over a Ministry of Education communication seeking details from central universities about courses featuring works by B R Ambedkar, Jyotirao Phule and other social thinkers.

In a post on X, Gandhi alleged that the move came a day after an anonymous social media account described books including Ambedkar's Annihilation of Caste and Phule's Gulamgiri as “poison” being fed to young minds. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “against social justice and equality” and alleged that the government was seeking to discourage students from questioning and thinking.

Gandhi said the sequence was “extremely shocking” and questioned why the government, which he alleged remained silent on issues including paper leaks, unemployment and youth security, had acted quickly following the social media post.

The Congress leader's comments come amid an ongoing political debate over paper leaks, unemployment, and security for youth.
