Assam CM Himanta Sarma
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that Himanta Biswa Sarma does not consider himself as a chief minister but as a raja (king) and claimed that Congress will put him behind bars for the corruption he has done in Assam.

Addressing a party meeting in Assam's Chaygaon, Gandhi said: "There is fear on the CM's face. He knows that the fearless Congress workers will put him in jail. Day and night, he is engaged in giving land to industrialists."

He said, "This person loots land from Assam 24 hours under the pretext of a solar park or resort." Gandhi claimed Congress will sweep the Assam assembly polls due next year.

Alleging that the Election Commission of India and the BJP were working together, he said, "Within a span of four months in Maharashtra -- from Lok Sabha polls to the assembly polls -- one crore voters have increased. We sought the voters' list from the EC, but they are yet to provide it. We asked for the videos of the booths, but we were not given."

He claimed BJP won the Maharashtra assembly polls by 'cheating' through voters' list revision. "They are trying the same tactics in Bihar where they are removing lakhs of people from the voters' list. They are removing workers, the poor and farmers. Voters of Congress and RJD are removed. They will repeat the same in Assam. We must be careful and ensure that they cannot do the same here."

Meanwhile, Himanta posted on X, "Take it in writing, Himanta Biswa Sarma will definitely be sent to jail' - these were the exact words spoken by the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, during his closed-door meeting with the Congress Political Affairs Committee in Assam. He came all the way to Assam just to say this, conveniently forgetting that he himself is out on bail in multiple criminal cases registered across the country. My best wishes to you, Rahul ji. Enjoy the hospitality of Assam for the rest of the day."

Kharge said that Assam has always been a Congress bastion. "BJP has been trying to form a government here for a long time. However, they have borrowed from the Congress and made him the Assam CM."
