Rahul Gandhi gets crowd cheering over demonetisation
SHAMLI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi used a popular catch phrase of an advertisement to slam Prime Minister Narendra Modi on demonetisation at an election rally in Shamli on Monday and emphasised that the move had caused hardships for the common people and farmers while the rich managed to turn their black money into white. “Wherever Modi goes, he makes excuses. His biggest lie was on the issue of demonetisation.

On November 8, he stood up and said a new idea has come to his mind. He tells the country on television, ‘bhaiyo aur beheno, the cash in your pocket that you earned with your sweat and blood is no longer legal’. What an idea!” Gandhi said, amid applause.

Gandhi, who was accompanied by Jat leader Bhupinder Hooda, reached out to the youth and farmers of western UP. He promised them jobs and good price for their produce respectively.

He said while Modi’s ‘friends in the media’ hailed the decision, the rest of the world and noted economists had criticised the move. “The rest of the world and reputed economists are wondering what illness befell him that he took this decision.

Corruption is being fought in other countries too (but they did not make any such move). Modi has told people that your money is useless, tear it and throw it away. Go stand in the queue,” Gandhi said.
